I don't exactly know how to solve this kind of problem, more experienced
members in this list may hellp you here, but if vfat access is 
included as a module, you can turn off automounting this vfat partition
during boot up, and then, as root, try to modprobe vfat and try manually
mounting this partition and see what happens.
