Hi everyone
We have a HP workstation in our lab. We would like to make it secure so
we planned to connect it to a Mandrake Simple Network Firewall(SNF)
system.Iam not well conversant with this technique. But whatever little
knowledge I have gained I came to know that I have to configure my SNF to
be the gateway for my workstation and then use IP -masquerading to connect
to the outside network. But the real problem is that we would like to
download software from a server in the college to our workstation for which
we need to specify the IP address of the machine. But since I have to use an
internal IP (192.168.1.x) I presume that I will not be able to download to
my workstation.
Is there any way that I can configure my workstation to be in the
network instead of private network so that to be visible to all and also
make it secure while connecting to the outside network.
What is the idea of a proxy server? Forgive me if it does not
fit the domain.
Please send me your suggestions to resolve the problem.Any brief
explanations would also help me enrich my knowledge.
regards
chandrasekar
