ATI Radeon support is miserable and so is the support for MACH64. The
drivers are being developed at a snail's pace by "disgruntled" volunteer
DRI developers.

The T&L code is currently very very alpha.

Only the ATI R128 drivers are dependable. I can confirm it because I use
it everyday to play UT and Quake. 99% of the time it does not crash and
frame rates are equivalent to Win2K.

AFAIK, currently there is no sponsored development of any drivers in the
DRI tree. ATI (and other companies) have sponsored PI and VA Linux only
to develop "initial" support for their current chipsets. So most of the
newer chipsets don't work.
