Hi,
I have RHT Linux 7.2 with custom compiled 2.4.16 kernel. All is working
fine except that yesterday I found that I cant seem to ping localhost or my
machine name which is "jiger.com".
Onstartup all services "seem" to start well no "Failed" message comes up.
The Network service also comes up fine & it says

Setting Network Parameters
Bringing up Interface lo OK
Bringing up Interface dummy0 OK

I dont have any hardware interface card & has configured dummy interfaces
one for lo & one as dummy.

So no one should be doubting that something went wrong I can even start X
well. But on starting Tomcat I foundout that there was some problem with the
Interface & their bindings to IPs 127.0.0.1 for lo & 192.168.1.1 for
interface dummy0.
route does not give any output. ping localhost just says connect:network
unreachable ifconfig initially used to give no interface as up although on
startup it did say bringing the two interfaces up.
So if I manually up the two interfaces & manually add the ips two the two
iterfaces using route then after restarting network, routed, gated etc it
works. (that too sometimes)Although I dont have gated & routed started
normally coz I am having this PC as home PC so dont need them.

Now could anyone figure out how to setup things normally.
Yes onemore thing. I also have 2.4.7 kernel that comes with RHT default.
It too had this problem initially. But after starting network service &
adding ips statically using route it works fine then why is on the other
kernel it is giving problem. I also found "named" failing on shutdown but
on startup works fine.
Could anyone help solve this problem.

Thanks in Advance,
Jiger
