What do you mean by free space here? Unpartitoned or partitioned but not formatted or partitioned and formatted but no data on it. > I want to use this free space for linux. Create some partition on that disk. Use mkfs to format those partitions. Use mount to mount that formatted partition on a mount point. For permanent results, put a line in /etc/fstab. Make sure that mount point is an existing dir.
