your first problem is , your free space is in extended partition of
win95. and your second problem is , your bios does not support booting
after 1024 cillinders. Although you can solve the first problem , you
can not solve the second one.

You should plan your HDD like this 

prepare first primary partion from dos , of win95 fat32 of 3 GB 
prepare second primary partion from linux of 25 mb (ext2) ( /boot
partition)

prepare extended partion of remaining space.
and then do win and ext2 logical partitions. 

It works with my machine.
