...and they have the right to ignore your advice.  I tend to agree
with the original poster, that telling, requesting or advising people
not to send MS Office documents in mail is quite futile.  Most people
don't even know how to export a Word file to HTML before mailing,
e.g., how many people are you going to educate?

There are two types of standards: de jure and de facto.  Office
document formats seem to be quite a de facto standard, like it or
not.  If you're a purist and willing to pay the price for ignoring
Office format documents sent to you, more power to you!  If not, then
do what I do which is load up Star Office and read all those offers of
1M dollars which I find in my mail every day ;-)
