My doubt really is  how do you add it to the RC scripts (talking about
the second case : making telnetd run as a standalone server away from
xinetd) .

Well , at any rate , even though I have telnet server
running from my xinetd , as I have understood so far ,
I still can not telnet in to the machine in question.

As I already said , I did 
ifconfig eth0 10.10.1.52 up netmask 255.0.0.0
and the output of ifconfig -a showed that eth0 was up.

Is there anything I might have missed ?
