The problem: I had configured exim for both local and remote deliveries, but it used to say 'unrouteable address' when I sent mail to local users. The configure file seemed to be perfectly okay and the user did exist; and yet it couldn't perform local delivery. The Solution: It was simply a case of case-difference ;-) The user name was Ajay, and the mail was sent to Ajay (note capital A in both the instances), and yet exim searched for user ajay! (note small a) Why? Was Exim trying to make up for the user's stupidity? I suppose user-ids should always be made up of small-case alphas and other permitted chars? Whew! It took almost a week to sort this out. Thanks to Suresh and Jai for testing out my configure file, which finally led me to the solution.
