I too failed to understand the logic behind download, when CD's  are
available at Rs.50.
Now some one with a fat pipe would argue that he, can download freely, but
remember it is not  entirely free, some one, some where is going to pay and
more over you are congesting the network for no apparent reason.
So the bottom line is avoid huge down load when they can be avoided, saving
the bandwidth for others.
