for each virtual user, eg, arvind
postfix creates a directory inside /var/spool/mail

so finally all my mails come inside /var/spool/mail/arvind/Maildir/ ( and
its 3 sub-directories)

Now, earlier, the subdirectory arvind used to be created with
uid: 1000
gid: 1000

this was what the values from
virtual_uid_maps = mysql:/etc/postfix/ids.cf
virtual_gid_maps = mysql:/etc/postfix/idg.cf
yielded.

now fortunately or unfortunately /var/spool/mail is owned by
postfix.postdrop
so postfix while delivering mail for arvind had to write with uid:1000 and
gid:1000

This did not work out as it kept saying, permission denied. And i had to
create a sub-directory called arvind inside /var/spool/mail/ with
uid=gid=1000 and then my Maildir/ was getting created and mail delivered.

so, i changed the gid of all virtual users to postdrop. since
/var/spool/mail is owned by postdrop, postfix created
/var/spool/mail/arvind without any hassles.
uid=1000 and gid = postdrop.

will this create any security issue is gid = postdrop?

Arvind
