There are not as many under Linux, as there are for the Windows platform. Of the free ones that I have tried: o Antivir: AntiVir provides protection against infected e-mails by scanning in - and outgoing mails with shell scripts. Refer http://www.hbedv.com/ o F-Prot for Linux : Can scan across mounted M$ partitions. Its virus definition files are newer. http://www.f-prot.com/ o NOD32 antivirus system for Linux. Forget the URL, check out google for NOD32. Similar to F-Prot but smaller, and the virus definition files of 2001 vintage. I believe McAfee is better and more complete, but its is paid stuff, and I have not given it a try. > > And can we run antivirus programmes on m/s windows files which > are mounted on linux server through smbclient. > I have tried both F-Prot and NOD32 on stand alone M$ boxes (with- out samba). I booted from a custom built rescue disk set and ran the anti-virus from ram disk alone ... F-Prot managed to get rid of CIH from a friend's Win-9x box. I do not think there should be problems over a samba network, but I have not tried it myself ...
