You can run oracle 8.1.7 on upto RedHat 7.2 All you have to do is, configure some environment variables of oracle user.
Check for the kernel and lib versions for RedHat 7.0 and Redhat 7.2 .. and set you environment variables according to that. Follow the link. http://www.learninglinux.com/article.php?sid=44 usally , oracle universal installer comes with required jre, so you don't have to install JRE.
