Try this.

Fed up of typing password for every login as an user on  stand
alone boxes ? Use chpasswd ... As root type in:
#echo 'username:' | chpasswd  [Note the colon : after the user 
name]. From the next login onwards with that username, [Enter]
needs to be pressed on the password prompt ...

# passwd -d
