Don't know about postfix, but sendmail is not a delivery agent - its a
transport agent. Delivery is done (usually, at least on Linux) by procmail.

Procmail understands maildirs natively. So any mail system that can be
configured to use procmail as local delivery agent can be considered to
be Maildir-aware. Does postfix qualify?
