this has been asked and answered in depth before. perhaps a search of the
archives would better answer your question. The local machine on which you
are working on, what sort of machine is it ? assuming both are linux
machines, running X the foll should work:
1) open a termnial (xterm, Eterm ..) on your local machine and enter the
command "xhost +"
2) telnet and login to the remote server
3) enter the foll commad "export DISPLAY=IP_NUMBER_OF_LOCAL_MACHINE:0"
4) fire up the application you want to run, it will run on the remote machine
but the display will be on your local machine.
i am not sure about this, but only the local machine needs X to be running,
however whenever i have done the above both machines run X. If your local
machine is a windblows machine, then you will need to run some software on it
to display the graphics, like exceed hummingbird (you need to pay for this)
or there is a free X manager software available, but i don't know the name,
it was however distributed with the pcquest cd some time back. In this case
fire up the software on the windblows machine and follow steps 2 - 4 from the
above. VNC/TightVNC are slow even on a local 100 mbps local lan.
please *try* to search for an answer before you question the list again.
google, LIH archives (available from linux-india.org website etc.) would get
you a lot of far better and more detailed answers than what i have provided
above.
