i suppose you could start off by reading up on designing OSes and quirks
of RTOSes. Then you could decide on requirements  like
1. soft realtime/hardrealtime
2. high speed IPC mechanism
3. memory protection. generally a waste in typical embedded systems
4. platform
5. memory requirements
6. ...

God doesn't seem to do a damn thing but still manages to get 99% of the
population to follow him. no company would ever be able to match that
kind of PR !
