try using phpmyadmin.

you can export ur tables easily.  it will store the data as a series of sql
insert statements.

and if u want to restore them, you can just run the exported file.

it stores the structure and the sql queries. make sure this method suits
you.
This is a safe method as your mysql data can then be not only be restored
onto the original platform but also it can be restored to any platform
running mysql.
