I want to deny users entering from the external IP access to
~user directory

if someone is coming from the local lan, then he/she should be allowed.

the apache docs only show me example of blocking a specific ip address or a
domain.

is it not possible i have an option of denying all by default and allowing
only my 192.168.5.0/24 subnet.

i tried giving
<Directory /home/*/www>
    Order deny,allow
    Allow from 192.168.5.0/24
</Directory>

it does not seem to work as people from other sites can still access my page
http://www.foo.com/~user/index.htm

how can i stop this ?

Arvind
