Any idea why you screwed up your DNS the first time? :)

If you had preserved the old (with an error) zonefile and diff'd it
against the new, working one, you might have found out.

There are ways - such as bringing up a backup box with a new OS version,
etc. Right now, with that ancient machine you have there, it is a matter
of time before someone or the other breaks into it. Especially after you
have been so kind as to post the hostname and IP on a publicly archived
mailing list.

I'd say, upgrade ASAP. And till then, shutdown and/or firewall all
unnecessary services, upgrade sendmail, apache, and the kernel (stick to
the 2.2.x series - I think 2.2.20 is the latest there).

Especially disable telnet, and install the latest version of openssh.
