Hi,
I have a problem regarding quotas on Mdk Linux 8.2 (2.4.18), default kernel.
I used ext3 file system before. Then I read the quota howto which tells that
ext2 is required. So, I made changes to fstab by changing ext3 to ext2 (yes,
i heard this can be done with ext3 partitions).
I have 1 partition for linux which reads,
        /dev/hda9 / ext2 defaults,usrquota 1 1
I made these files on /
-rw------- 1 root root 0 Aug 13 11:22 aquota.group
-rw------- 1 root root 0 Aug 13 11:22 aquota.user
-rw------- 1 root root 0 Aug 13 11:22 quota.group
-rw------- 1 root root 0 Aug 13 11:22 quota.user

But it is not woking yet. After many reboots the files are still 0 bytes.
When I do,
#quotaon -auvg
quotaon: using //aquota.user on /dev/hda9: Invalid argument

OR

#edquota -u rp
edquota: Can't initialize quota on /dev/hda9: Function not implemented
No filesystems with quota detected.

# quotacheck -auvg
quotacheck: WARNING - Quotafile //aquota.user was probably truncated. Can't
save quota settings...
quotacheck: Cannot remount filesystem mounted on / read-only so counted
values might
not be right.
Please stop all programs writing to filesystem or use -m flag to force
checking.

What wrong is happening?
Can someone throw light on this please?
Thanks a lot in advance and eagerly waiting for the reply.
-Payal
