Well, you can say that I'm sort of aware of what you are saying, considering
I'm a sysadmin and postmaster at an ISP with ~ 30 million webmail users, and
see this sort of thing like just about every other minute.

Yes.  It is done by most spammers.  But if someone is relaying through his
box, or somehow or the other injecting spam through his box, the way to go is
to fix the security hole in his machine, not paper it over by installing
spamassasin.

As far as I can see, he is saying he is seeing spam sent through his server,
outbound.  Maybe I just didn't understand his english ... but this is what I
understood from what he said.

Now, if he wanted to implement something to catch spam *inbound* to his
users... ok, spamassasin is a definite possiblity.  Outbound spam is a
totally different story.

Using plain text mails is a better idea. Especially on mailing 
lists. These are readable by all, whereas HTML mail may not ..
Besides, they are smaller in size (bandwidth), with  less risk
of script nuisance.
