Subject: Cannot open any terminals in X

Hi,

I have a Debian 2.4.18 on my system.
When I startx as a user I cannot seem to open any terminal windows like
konsole, xterm, eterm... but when I run startx as root, I can.

The log shows an error with keyboard ...

>From /var/log/Xfree86.0.log:

(...)

Couldn't load XKB keymap, falling back to pre-XKB keymap

-------------

There's a line about it not finding any pseduo-ttys or ptys... that I
see on the screen but doesn't show in the log.

That seems to be the problem anyway.

Any idea how to fix this?

Thanks.

Regards,
-shruti
