Re: When telnet the output is mono-chrome and vi
editor does not work properly

I have installed telnetd
(telnet-server-0.17-23.i386.rpm) on Red Hat Linux 7.2
running on Intel Pentium III PC server.

When I telnet from another PC, I dont see colors and
the output is just mono-chrome. The values of the
$TERM and the $_ are dumb. The output of the vi
editor is messy.
When I ssh, it works fine and can see colors and can
use the vi editor and the values of the $TERM and the
$_ are xterm.

I have installed the same telnetd server on another PC
server but running Red Hat Linux 7.1 and when I telnet
to this server, I can see colors and values of the
$TERM and the $_ are xterm.

The /etc/DIR_COLORS is the same on both machines.

Contenets of the /etc/xinetd.d/telnet is same on both
servers and is as follows:

service telnet
{
        flags                   = REUSE
        socket_type             = stream
        wait                    = no
        user                    = root
        server                  = /usr/sbin/in.telnetd
        log_on_failure          += USERID
        disable                 = no
}

Could somebody please explain to me how to fix this
problem?

Many thanks in advance.

Regards,
Sagara
