I have NOT installed gentoo, but I get a feeling that the
stuff in /isolinux dir is perhaps boot  disk  components,
with resque.gz being the initrd image.

It seems, the stageN_I.tbz files are bzipped  tarballs of  
the directory tree. Just try "tar -tyvf stageN_I.tbz" and
have a look.

Which month's DevIQ is this ? need to have a look ...
