Hmm..While not in the same league, you can try kword as well.. It has frames 
and has potential to be a good DTP software.. Lyx/Latex of course are creations 
of God, but not everybody is going to be comfortable with them..

Try Mandrake 9. You will find that KOffice 1. is actually pretty usable barring 
reading MS documents...

BTW, by KOffice 1.3, koffice and openoffice plam to have same document format. 
That way simplest way to get to koffice would be via openoffice.. Of course 
openoffice will held it's niche given that it runs on windows as well.. But 
then there will be a much better level playing field..

I suggest unicode.. The kind of mess people has made with indic fonts, like 
each web site having it's own ttf font and none of them covers complete char. 
set to make it worse..

Some people who live at PLUG(http://plug.org.in) have prepared few nicode indic 
fonts.. You can go thr. archive or mail me personally..
