I remember the time the Bombay LUG (around 1999) encouraged us in Goa to
set up our own LUG. We now have 180 members on the mailing list (of which
about 25 are active at meetings), and we're grateful to you guys. Infact,
due to its small base, Goa shows up as having the highest number of
GNU/Linux users per million across India today!

Just to say that such efforts are really laudable. Keep it up.

Also, do keep us informed about plans at Sangli; which as you know is
quite close to Goa too.

Just today, Aniket Navelkar <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> mentioned that they had set
up a LUG at Gogte College in Belgaum. Of course, the challenge for any new
LUG is (i) to build up critical mass (ii) to set up an active mailing-list
and regularly updated website and (iii) to ensure that the discussions
don't veer around only too-technical subjects that keep newbies wondering
what's going on...

Maybe LUGs at places like Mangalore, and other smaller cities and towns,
too need mentoring, so that the number of GNU/Linux enthusiasts across
India could grow.

Lastly, on the issue of freebies, I think that the Redhat site below
promises to send you some freebies (don't know if they offer is available
in India too) if you register and ask for the same. Check out the site
below... FN
