Thanks for your mail. Yes, I am using GRUB as a boot loader and I am able to get into single user mode. The system displays a sh-0.x# prompt. I could change the password for root. However, when I attempt to log on to the system (level 3), the same behaviour (as mentioned in the previous mail) is repeated.
