Putty by itself cannot do this. Putty is an ssh client, not an X
server. You need an X server that runs on your Windows system - Xwin32,
Exceed etc. are some options that you have.

Once you have one of these installed, putty can do it. In putty
configuration for a remote computer, enable the checkbox "Enable X11
Forwarding" in Configuration->SSH->Tunnels. The default setting for
DISPLAY is OK.

Note that your ssh server should also support X11 forwarding. For
OpenSSH, its

X11Forwarding yes

in sshd_config (Certain distros ship with this turned off by default,
I think).

PS: Putty is almost as versatile as the openssh ssh client. I am
experimenting with its batch mode features currently. Have managed to
run CVS over SSH using WinCVS and putty so far. :)
