from your subject, and what you mentioned above, it could be a problem
with the ide cable. have you been playing around there ? did you
change the jumper settings from master to slave to cable-select or
vice-versa. while booting can your bios recognize the 2 hdd's ? if not
try changing channels. if you are not comfortable with this, get a
technician to do it.
anyway this looks more like a hardware issue rather than a linux
issue.
