Probably your default gateway setting has now become directed to eth0 . It should be going to ppp0 when you connect using kppp. I have a similar thing in home and it works. IF you give route -v as superuser it would show you this. For the time being you can always set the default gateway manually till a more elegant solution is suggested or I can check this in home.
