Why use block writes of 1MB ? It may be wiser to leave this
to default 512 bytes to avoid any  null padding  errors. If  
the bs=bytes option is given, and no  conversion other than
sync, noerror, or notrunc is  specified, it writes the data 
read (which could be smaller than what was requested)  in a 
separate output block. If this output  block has  precisely 
the same length as was  read, fine,  otherwise, the data is 
padded with NULs (see man dd for details).
