I do not have the exact reference. I too remember something to this
effect on /. about some stores in UK selling audio cd's (from Sony if my
memory serves me right) which could not be played on comuter drives.
People were suggesting recording via digital out and converting the same
to ogg/mp3 for later use ;-)
