Wel, you can't create metadata just like that.. I just hope you have backup taken. If your pg installation is working smoothly, like at least you are able to connect and see the data, but facing problems with pg_dump, it's worth sending a detailed report to postgresql hackers. I am sure you must be getting some verbose errors in error log. If you are able to connect to database and see the data, try writing a program that selects and dumps the output.. See if ti helps..
