well, if the problem is indeed with the audio cable, and you can't open
the box, you may want to look at the read-cd plugin for xmms (search
xmms.org). with it you should be able to play audio cd-s digitally,
without using the audio connector (windows may be using a similar method
to play them - check if "digital audio" is enabled in the cdrom
settings). if you need help, go through sayamindu's howto in the
articles section at www.ilug-cal.org .
