Its an allround performer. :-) > actually i tried. no go. this is not a grip problem, nor is it an xmms or xmcd problem. this is something else... when i ran grip, i got absolutely no sound! but, i got this in the log: Nov 11 23:00:14 homeland kernel: cdrom: entering CDROM_DRIVE_STATUS Nov 11 23:00:45 homeland last message repeated 31 times Nov 11 23:00:55 homeland last message repeated 10 times Nov 11 23:00:56 homeland kernel: cdrom: entering CDROMSTART/CDROMSTOP Nov 11 23:00:56 homeland kernel: cdrom: entering CDROMPLAYMSF Nov 11 23:00:58 homeland kernel: cdrom: entering CDROM_DRIVE_STATUS Nov 11 23:01:29 homeland last message repeated 31 times Nov 11 23:01:56 homeland last message repeated 27 times Nov 11 23:01:57 homeland kernel: cdrom: entering CDROMSTART/CDROMSTOP Nov 11 23:01:57 homeland kernel: cdrom: entering CDROM_DRIVE_STATUS Nov 11 23:01:59 homeland kernel: cdrom: entering CDROM_DRIVE_STATUS Nov 11 23:01:59 homeland kernel: cdrom: entering CDROMSTART/CDROMSTOP Nov 11 23:01:59 homeland kernel: cdrom: entering CDROM_DRIVE_STATUS Nov 11 23:01:59 homeland kernel: cdrom: entering CDROMSTART/CDROMSTOP Nov 11 23:01:59 homeland kernel: cdrom: entering CDROMPLAYMSF Nov 11 23:02:02 homeland kernel: cdrom: entering CDROM_DRIVE_STATUS Nov 11 23:02:14 homeland last message repeated 12 times then i kill grip... Nov 11 23:02:14 homeland kernel: cdrom: entering cdrom_release Nov 11 23:02:14 homeland kernel: cdrom: Use count for "/dev/hdc" now zero Nov 11 23:02:14 homeland kernel: cdrom: Unlocking door! all the other utils i mentioned have similar o/p... except for the fact that xmms sometimes does let me listen to 1st track before it ejects the caddy. whenever i click the play or stop buttons (xmms), the caddy ejects... in grip, when i kill grip, the caddy ejects !!??!! this is definitely not a grip/xmms/whatever util problem, its (i suspect) either a kernel module problem or a (kernel) config problem. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ What could be the problem ? He is on Woody with 2.4.18 kernel.
