I have four PCs as follows.
PC1 with dual boot with win me
It has with it a HP 3200C scanner
PC2 with linux
It has a 56 kbps modem a CD writer and a laser printer
PC3 with windows
It has a dot matrix printer connected
PC4 with windows
I want to network these. I have gone through a few docs. However I couldn't
zero in on strategy how to do it?
Required jobs prioritized as follows.
1)Either PC2 should be able get files from other three PCs for archiving or
Other three PCs should be able to transfer files to PC2.
2) All PCs should be able to get a print out from laser printer
3)PC4 should get print out from dotmatrix printer
I have no prior knowledge of networking but for a few reading. I may be wrong
in the following. If so kindly point it out
1) With a single eight port hub I wanted to network.
2) PC2 will run samba so that PC1 (with windows), PC3 and PC4 can send files
and share laser.
3) PC1 when in linux will connect to PC2
PC2 IP address 192.168.1.1
PC1 IP address 192.168.1.2
PC3 IP address 192.168.1.3
PC4 IP address 192.168.1.4
network address is 192.168.1.0
netmask 255.255.255.249
PC2 will be running dhcp to resolve it
I would like network gurus to correct wrong statements from the above.
Further what modifications are required to be done in which machine to make
the system work as listed in the job requirement.
Added requirement may be finally PC2 will get mails from internet with one
address([EMAIL PROTECTED]) and others will collect it from PC2 and reply. Replies
will be stored in PC2 and it will be sent from PC2.
Kindly help in installing the above
