Rajesh, I meant mmv for files on linux, not for DOS. Of course, I have
used it to mass rename dos files also. Works beautifully.

Here are the package details:

  Package: mmv
  Status: install ok installed
  Priority: optional
  Section: utils
  Installed-Size: 47
  Maintainer: Bernd Eckenfels <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
  Version: 1.01b-12
  Depends: libc6 (>= 2.2.4-4)
  Description: Move/Copy/Append/Link multiple files
   mmv is a program to move/copy/append/link multiple files
   according to a set of wildcard patterns. This multiple action is
   performed safely, i.e. without any unexpected deletion of files due to
   collisions of target names with existing filenames or with other
   target names.
