Well, if you want an alternative for a _wholly_ linux/unix environment, all
you'll need is ssh with some scripts to decide what m/c's need what packages.

That's _maybe_ posssible by hosting the updates in a samba share and having a
batch file that copies/performs the update in the login scripts of your
users.
