Yes, someone on one of the freebsd news groups did suggest this to me,
and I was then able to use 'wget -c' to download packages. But there
was still a problem. I did not stay with FreeBSD long enough to identify
the cause of the problem, but it seemed to be due to change in the
time stamp of some files which caused a re-download of some files.
There must be some options I wasn't aware of. After all I did not
have time to RTFM then. (But I do have the FreeBSD 4.6 CDs and can
always re-install it and learn some more.)

Yes, I understand that.
But one thing, Debian does have the ability to download source
packages using 'deb-src' lines in sources.list file. However,
I do believe that ports based distros do provide an easier way of
managing those source files.

Thanks for this info. I will be trying it as soon as I get
an opportunity to try it on the college computer.
