I have rh8 and I am unable to figure out how to make sendmail behave. I have generated a new sendmail.cf using m4 and sendmail.mc. I have added the conCONF_EXPENSIVE line and my smarthost to sendmail.mc.
I regenerated the cf file after stopping sendmail and then restarted sendmail. Mails were still *not* being queued. I opened sendmail.cf and though the HoldExpensive=true was present, there was no mention of the smarthost. The DS line was empty. I finally added my smarthost to sendmail.cf manually. But mails are still *not* being queued. I need to queue mails because my mail server requires pop before smtp. I am using a hathway cable connection. If its any help, /usr/sbin/sendmail is a link to /etc/alternatives/mta which is a link to /usr/sbin/sendmail.sendmail.
