Take a look at Yoper Linux. I tried their latest release a couple of days 
back. the Desktop environment(KDE) is fast and sleek, and the boot-cd is 
pretty good as well. Was able to detect most things and was easy setting up. 
Yoper, btw, supports tgz, and debs and rpms via alien. I managed to install 
a few .debs from sid on it too.
