[LIH]squid on linux

Hi all
i'am using squid on linux (redhat 7.2 vanilla with 256 mb ram pIV processor for 100 users). But it seems to be slow. Whereas when i use isa server on win2k with 256 mb ram and pIII processor the performance seems to be perceptibly better. What can be the reason. Is there some way to tune up squid?
