Merry Christmas everybody.
I have an old K6 II 400 w/ a 9 GB IBM hdd. I suddenly got a whole lot of dma interrupt and dma reset messages in /var/log/messages. On reboot, I get the grub splash screen and then the pc hangs w/ the following message. ----------------------------- Uncompressing linux invalid compressed format (err=1) -- System halted. ---------------------------- I booted from a rip linux rescue cd and tried to run fsck but I am getting superblock errors which persist even when I try e2fsck -b 8193. What is to be done now ? I hope I can atleast salvage my data from my /home on which I *can* run an fsck which shows the partition is clean. I have loaded rh 8 on this machine just about 3-4 weeks ago and had opted to check for bad blocks during format. Needless to say, no errors were reported. Sharukh. -- Dr. Sharukh K. R. Pavri.
