u can pass "linux emergency" as a parameter to the boot manager (lilo or
grub) . linux emergency does nto start init process and gives u the
prompt. then u can correct ur inittab file. the other way could be to
boot into rescue mode, by typing "linux rescue" while booting from CD or
if u have boot disks ready with u.
u can write the minimum following after opening ur /etc/inittab file

id:3:initdefault:
si::sysinit:/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit
l3:3:wait:/etc/rc.d/rc 3
1:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty1
2:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty2

it should work.
