It will download a *list* of all groups available on your news server. Point your newsreader at localhost:nntp (or your leafnode server's IP if it is somewhere else on your lan) and 1. Get the list of newsgroups 2. Subscribe to one of them and open it - you will see a leafnode placeholder article 3. The next time fetchnews runs (put fetchnews and texpire in cron if you are more or less permanently connected, or throw it into ip-up.local / ip-down.local if on a dialup) leafnode will fetch a certain number of articles (look at the leafnode config file) for you. Re your other question - yes, news.vsnl.net.in is screwed up and more or less useless. Try one of the better free (text only) services around - http://news.cis.dfn.de - you subscribe there and get yr username and password. That server is in Germany, so might get a little slow, but has a great feed, especially of the big 8 newsgroups. srs ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.NET email is sponsored by: SourceForge Enterprise Edition + IBM + LinuxWorld = Something 2 See! http://www.vasoftware.com _______________________________________________ linux-india-help mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/linux-india-help
