I have a AMD K-6 II 400 w/ 128 ram w/ a 9 GB IBM hdd. I have loaded rh 8 on this. Yesterday as I was working, I had two instances of mozilla and one of konqueror open and both suddenly disappeared. I could not open any new windows. On restarting X there were no desktop icons or the taskbar.
On reboot, I got some erors saying: -------- hda Drive_seek_error ------- I then got a whole lot of errors about invalid arguments in rc.d but atleast I got a login prompt. Unfortunately as soon as I hit <enter> after the login name, it comes back to the login prompt w/o giving the password prompt. On rebooting again, the machine hangs w/ this message: ----------- Kernel panic: trying to kill init. ----------- This had happened once before but anyway at that time I had needed to rearrange my partitions so I had just re-installed evrything.
