Yes, this is a rant. Yes, I'm pretty much pissed off with the state of
things, where each and every FAQ around gets asked on the mailing lists
first, without benefit of googling.
Some people (like at least two in recent days on the ilug-hyd list) even
expect us to solve their bloody homework. They osted a set of questions -
"How do I set up NIS, NFS, DHCP, DNS ..." and when asked, cheerfully admitted
that yes, this was their homework. That is the last straw :(
LI-* and other linux mailing lists are turning into "instant consultancy
services" - too many people around asking inane questions crossposted to half
a dozen lists (ilug chennai, LIH, LIG, and in one case, Philly Linux and an
Aussie LUG of some sort to boot).
