If the webcam has a v4l ("Video for Linux " ) driver, then one can use the 
utility "webcam" to do this. This is bundled with "xawtv" package, which is 
normally packaged with the RH distribution. It should also be there on 
Mandrake.

Most of the webcams should be supported since they use same chipset. I would 
suggest just run xawtv and if you start to see the camera picture displayed 
on the screen, you are in good shape. If not, you may have to do a little bit 
of tweaking to get this working.

"webcam" can load still pictures at given interval to a ftp site. You can 
also use software from Realnetworks to stream the live picture.
