Hi,

I am facing problems connecting to my ISP with kppp, on slackware
linux 8.1. I use 56kbps D-Link external modem.

The description of my problem follows:

1. My linux user account name is "atul".
2. My vsnl login account name is "asowani".
3. /etc/ppp/options is owned by root and has permissions -rw-r--r--.
[I tried setting it to "-rw-------", but it does not help].

4. I configured kppp to used PAP/CHAP and specified username as
   "asowani" and provided password.
5. Just a couple of days ago, this used to work. Just clicking on kppp
would nicely pop-up the login window and upon clicking "connect",
it would log me in to vsnl server. But then my KDE session crashed
once and after I recovered it, my kppp settings were gone.
6. Now I use it, it fires pppd with arguments "user asowani". Since there
is no such user on my system, pppd failes with exit status 16 (saying
   that could not open /etc/ppp/options).

My question is, is there any way to set kppp where it logs me in as
earlier? That means, though I specify username as "asowani", how do I
make pppd start correctly?

Thanks!
Atul.
